The local police department of Xi-An province in China has chosen an ACTi network video server as a first-stage remote monitoring solution for the oil field and factory in the district.
The Chang-Chin oil field belongs the company that runs a large-scale oil field under PetroChina Limited in Xi'an. The entire oil field and factory are controlled directly by the local police department, which has been looking for a stable video solution that provides real-time monitoring while can overcoming distance restraiant. Using both existing analog speed domes with the SED-2120T network video servers has saved the police a large amount of money to gain IP solution.
Given the amount of space in the oil field, each camera site is very far apart. Nineteen analog speed domes were spread throughout the oil field, each connected to a video server, SED-2120T. The video stream and RS-485 data is first transmitted from each analog speed dome to the video server. Then via a LAN, the video and data are passed on to the remote control center via fiber optic cable.
SAN is located at the control center to record the video images of 19 speed domes and simultaneously distribute the information via the Internet to different monitoring sites. The administrator at the local police station can therefore do real-time monitoring of the whole district via the network and take action immediately whenever an emergency occurs.
The number of choices, vendors, and types of solutions is exploding. Large numbers of alternatives are normally an advantage to the buyer, but it can add much confusion when trying to make the right choice.
Business is all about managing risk, and risk management comes down to making solid business decisions to avoid and mitigate potential threats, including natural disasters.
