A Showcase Of Best Products

By Ralph C Jensen · April 4, 2008

It’s called a product showcase for a reason, and the Security Industry Association honors the innovative minds in the industry with the coveted New Product Showcase awards. This year, NoblePeak Vision wins the NPS Innovation Award.

According to Phil Davies, vice president of sales and marketing for the company, this honor truly validates the hard work and persistent of company officials to be given this honor by judges from the security industry.

Perhaps the most telling sign of the product is the fact that in the post-9/11 world, the product truly offers the capability of interdiction.

It is a rather remarkable product in that it is a sensor technology using the night glow light that covers the earth. You and I see nothing, but there is a light source after the sun goes down. It’s created when the solar winds of the sun bounce off the earth and mingle with ions approximately 90 meters above the earth’s surface. According to Davies, hydrogen and oxygen at this playing field get a bit excited and light up the sky, even though it’s not visible to the human eye.

Company officials said the Tri-Wave camera will change the way end users think about cameras and how they can be used in a range of facilities and conditions.

The many products I saw the second day of ISC West included Vicon’s Digital Management Software 5.0, which supports cameras from all major manufacturers.

I also chatted with Wolfgang Ritter of Mobotix. Ritter is the director of sales in the Americas, and his company is introducing a recording solution for high resolution. He said MPEG is not the end-all solution because high resolution images eat too much bandwidth.

Ritter said cameras must have the ability at the front-end device to be able to analyze data in the camera. Mobotix is introducing their MXPEG solution, where information is stored at the head of GPEG and the user can go back frame by frame at any resolution to view captured images.

Today is the ISC West finale. I truly enjoy visiting with friends in the industry and checking out the new technology. There’s no possible way for me to see everything, despite the miles logged in on the show floor. It always good to have a job well done, pack the bags and head home to the Mrs. We have one more installment with an e-news letter in a week or so. We’re also going to report from the GOVSEC show later this month. Looking forward to seeing you at ASIS in September.
