You can’t pin a lack of education on not knowing the how, why and when questions on the emerging trends of CCTV moving from analog to an IP-based network market. A group of experts have been traveling the country defining goals and sharing their message of insight on preparing today’s network for tomorrow’s applications.
The CCTV Convergence seminar is back on the road again, having been in New York and Anaheim, Calif. Talking trade and expansion are representatives from JVC, NVT, Ortronics, Berk-Tek and S2 Security Corp. The solutions offered are real and a viable part of this burgeoning industry.
I’ve been able to tag along so far, offering a few words of encouragement at the end of the seminar, but little compared to the group of experts. They include Carol Oliver, Berk-Tek; George Wojtan, NVT; Adrian Parvulescu, JVC and John Moss, S2.
On June 24, these experts will participate in another day-long power event discussing structured cabling connectivity and physical support, CCTV, analog and IP cameras as well as NVRs and active equipment for the convergence market.
The event will be in Rosemont, Ill. at the Sheraton Gateway Suites O’Hare -- 6501 N. Mannheim Road. To register, go to the event’s Web site. The event begins at 8 a.m. and goes until about 1:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Best of all, the seminar is free, and it includes a hands-on demonstration that includes separate analog and IP-based camera systems.
Convergence is the name of the game because it will network functions, including data, video and power now connected together, over one standardized, structured cabling network. The sharing of resources will lead to a higher level of network efficiency while increasing the network’s return on investment.
There’s a lot to learn, including selecting the right camera for the right installation and environment -- a decision that can be overwhelming. But if an integrator is fully aware of the difference in camera qualities that can affect performance and signal integrity, the decision becomes quite a bit easier to make.
Looking beyond CCTV means looking at complete building automation systems that can reside on an IP-based user interface.
Hope you sign up for this great seminar. They are well done and have been strongly attended. Bring a couple questions with you. Hope to see you in Chicago.
