Sheriff's department makes move to digital surveillance

Rewind to the year 1991. Literally. After 14 years of overused VHS tapes, programmable VCRs and older matrix switchers, the Dearborn County, Ind., Sheriff ’s Department was overdue for an upgrade to its video surveillance system. The deputies and officers wanted a security system that would allow them to depend less upon manned in-house security and more upon digital, PC-controlled cameras and recorders.

The AV8180 and AV8360 offer four regions of interest for panoramic and digital PTZ viewing while recording the entire panoramic field of view for forensic high-definition analysis on playback.

EL-1000

The EL-1000 is a medium- to long-range varifocal IR camera. It uses a Sony Super HAD sensor with 580 TV lines of resolution and a varifocal 3.5- to 10-millimeter AI lens. It is IP-67 rated for outdoor applications and has 21 IRs with a viewable distance of up to 75 feet. The camera comes with a sturdy mounting bracket that can be used as either a top or bottom mount.
